Welcome
The Third Battle of Monte Cassino from the 15th of March to the 26th of March was one of New Zealand's major battles in World War Two. It aimed to take the little Italian town of Cassino and its overlooking Monastery, Monte Cassino from German hands. However, due to stiff resistance and poor conditions, the attack was repelled. It was only on the fourth attempt by the Allies to take Monte Cassino that they succeeded, although with many casualties.
